Bistek Cheesesteak
This might offend Philly… 😅🇵🇭 But hear me out. I took the iconic cheesesteak and gave it the full Bistek treatment—tangy calamansi, savory soy, garlic, caramelized onions, melty provolone, and a drizzle of that rich bistek sauce. One bite and you'll understand why this Filipino remix just works. Would you try it??
Ingredients
1.5 lbs thinly sliced beef
¼ cup calamansi (or citrus) juice
¼ cup soy sauce
1 tsp black pepper
1 medium bell pepper
1 medium onion
6 head of garlic
¼ cup soy sauce
Hoagie buns (or pan de sal)
Provolone cheese
Instructions
Marinade the beef in the calamansi juice, soy sauce, black pepper, and minced garlic for at least 1 hour.
Slice bell peppers and onions into thin strips, and sauté until seared and browned. Set aside.
Brown the marinaded beef until nicely seared.
Add the vegetables back into pan and mix well.
Place slices of cheese one top until melted.
Toast a hoagie bun until golden, spread mayo inside (optional), then press bun on top of the Bistek.
Flip, and then melt more cheese on top of the sandwich.
Devour while it’s hot and juicy.
